Meeting Neighbors and Making Muffins

Good News:
I live in an apartment where I have my own room, but share a kitchen with 3 other people. I've been here for almost two months and haven't seen hide nor hair of any of them. In fact, I was beginning to doubt their existence. However, today I finally met one of these elusive "kitchenmates"!

Bad News:
I only met her because I set the smoke alarm off at 11PM trying to make muffins.
And they weren't even done yet when I took them out...

Oddities and Ouchies!

Good News:
It was a 78 degree cloudless Saturday.

In a fit of precognition, I had asked for this Saturday off. Didn't have a reason, just thought I needed a Saturday off. So this left me with a whole beautiful day ahead of me. But what to do? It'd been weeks since we had a day that made me smile just by reading the weather forecast. After months of achy cold bones, shivering under layers and layers of ugly winter colors I was finally allowed to bust out my spring brights! Pinks and yellows and whites, hooray! I even busted out my summer purse for the occasion.

I decided the best course of action would be to head to the local flea market at the fair grounds and forage for cute oddities for my new apartment. Then I'd head over to the art museum ground with my camera to play artsy photography student. So off I went in my cute pink tank top and capris, with my camera secure in my festive purse. Thought briefly to put on sunscreen, but was already half way to the fair grounds and decided to get it before I hit the museum.

I got to the fair grounds and poured in with the rest of the cabin fevered masses. We were like marbles, slipping from their dark and dusty bag and pouring out into the sunshine. Bouncing from booth to booth, happily rolling around with sunlight eating grins plastered on our faces.

It was clear this sudden crop up of nice weather caught many off guard. After all, it had snowed only days before, and the shock of such a late dumping of winter weather had thrown many Southerners asunder. And several of them, in their manic rush to get out the house, hadn't spent enough time searching for sunglasses or hats, and they all tottered doing their best French Stewart or Renee Zellweger impressions. Some seemed to have lost faith the weatherman's skills all together and were seen sitting in the shade, wearing dark long sleeve shirts and even even longer faces. Most of us however had donned the clothing that would allow our dry wintered skin as much exposure to this new warmth and radiance. All were eager to soak up the long dormant heat and sunlight, as if we had to refill our cheeks before hunkered down for another bout of cold weather.

The fair grounds was littered with people and their dogs. The dogs were surely ecstatic. No doubt the past few months were monotonous for them as well. Their poor puppy paws rarely getting past the first block before they were wheeled around to go back to the warm indoors. Now they finally had a chance to trot, to sniff, to jump! To see greet other dogs, bemuse other people, and inspire "aw"s and "how cute!"s from everyone. And now they were finally able to lay flat on the hot pavement and pant, satisfied. Which upon seeing how many mutts were doing just that, it seems that is the whole purpose of a dog's life.

I delighted in all the happy dog faces, and whipped my camera and my manners out and asked people if I could snap of few of their four legged friends. All obliged, though I can't say the same about their pet. Don't really blame them however, what with all this excitement and movement, why would they want to focus on some weird girl pointing a little black box at their face?

Since photographing doggies wasn't going so smooth, I focused my attention to the many interesting and bizarre things for sale. Truly a flea market must have been the birthplace of the phrase "WTF". People have such weird things. What is even weirder though, is that they think they can sell it. What is weirder still, is that they DO sell it. One man's trash I suppose.

So after a rewarding hour or so, I decided to skip the museum and head home, my body saturated with warm delicious sunlight, my camera stocked with photos and my spirits adequately uplifted. Happily, I returned to my apartment, thinking there could be nothing wrong with this day.

It wasn't until I looked in the mirror some hours later that I discovered...

Waking Up, Windshields and Workouts

Good News: Woke up this morning and my hair looked like this:
Photobucket
It kind of looks like I just had my hair "did". If it's not Good it's at least Funny.

Bad News: I also woke up to a big crack in my windshield. My own fault for not getting the cute little ding fixed before it turned into a nasty spider web crack. Have no funds for windshield repair.

Also, working out with Carmen Electra did not make me feel sexy, powerful or confident. Instead felt clunky, uncoordinated, and very very jealous. Perhaps I need a cuter workout outfit.

Toilets and TVs (and TMI)

Good News:
I discovered today that I can see my TV from the bathroom! So I can sit on the toilet and not miss a beat!

Bad News:
I forget I am on the toilet and my butt falls asleep. Also, with the door open my cat can wonder in and bug me. Which is very rude, as I don't bug her when she leaves the door to her litter box open...
